UK passport photo guidance review log

A dated record of the official-source reviews behind our passport-photo guidance. A review date does not mean the government changed a rule on that date.

Digital, printed and photo-code guidance rechecked

Rechecked the current GOV.UK/HM Passport Office material used across the main requirements, digital-photo, print-size, photo-code, baby-photo and troubleshooting pages.

  • Kept digital requirements separate from printed millimetre measurements.
  • Kept current digital minimum dimensions and file-size guidance aligned with GOV.UK.
  • Kept printed 45×35mm and crown-to-chin guidance separate.
  • Kept age exceptions for babies and children explicit.
  • Kept “photo code retrieves a photo” separate from any claim of government approval.
  • Kept unaltered-photo guidance and removed/avoided beauty-filter or background-replacement compliance claims.

This entry records a review and website update; it does not assert that HM Passport Office introduced a new rule on 12 October 2026.

Baseline

10 October 2026: first recorded source review

OCT

Baseline review created

Reviewed current GOV.UK passport-photo guidance and recorded the initial source-check date used on the website. The baseline separated digital pixel/file rules from printed millimetre measurements and clarified age exceptions and unedited-photo requirements.

No government rule change was inferred merely because this was the first recorded review.

How this log works

Future entries should distinguish a routine source check from an actual rule change.

Review standard: each meaningful future entry should identify the official source checked, the review date, any specific wording or requirement that changed, and the resulting website update. A routine review should not be labelled as a new government requirement.
